Dream Temple

Mariko Mori – Fondazione Prada

The monumental multimedia installation designed by Japanese artist Mariko Mori for the Fondazione Prada space revolves around the Dream Temple, a complex futuristic architecture representing a utopian place, the ideal destination for a journey of spiritual exploration that culminates in an initiatory entry into the individual stream of consciousness of every living being.

Dream Temple is inspired by the Yumedono, the Temple of Dreams at the Buddhist monastery of Horyuji, built in 739 AD near Nara, Japan. The architecture is transparent, luminous, and iridescent, like the soft hues of dawn.

Designed to be disassembled for transport to museums around the world, Fondazione Prada presented “Dream Temple” at the Rooseum Center for Contemporary Art in Malmö, Sweden, and “Mariko Mori Pure Land” at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Tokyo in 2002.
