2012
Ars Multiplicata
Fondazione Prada
The title of the exhibition, curated by Germano Celant, refers to the dream, passed down from the historic avant-gardes to today’s artists, of achieving the democratic dissemination of art by practicing a multiplication of the art object to foster its diverse aesthetic and social enjoyment.
The exhibition spans a 75-year period, from the early 20th century to 1975, and documents with over six hundred works, multiples, and editions, the transformation of the idea of uniqueness in art and its perception, not only through the multiplication of objects but also in diverse media: from artist’s books to magazines, experimental cinema, and radio.
The extensive use of display cases and showcases made of iron and glass by MCM, containing the works in the exhibition, emphasizes the theme of the exhibition, fully reflecting the artist’s message.
